Swedish Massage Therapy
The practice of massage therapy is the assessment of soft tissues and joints of the body and the treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction and pain of the soft tissues and joints by manipulation to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical dysfunction or relieve pain. (Massage Therapy Act, 1991). The registered massage therapist will apply varying pressure and depth for the benefit and well-being of the patient.
Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a holistic approach that views an individual as a whole. An osteopathic manual practitioner will assess and treat restrictions in the body’s tissues that prevent us from being healthy. Osteopathy focuses on treating the root of the cause of the problem rather than just the symptom.
Some restrictions in the body, mostly found in muscles and connective tissues, may lead to poor circulation to surrounding tissues and organs, possibly leading to malfunction. Pain is often a symptom felt by these restrictions caused by everyday stresses, poor posture, repetitive motion and a lack of exercise.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
MLD promotes the natural circulation of lymph through the body. MLD uses a very light, specific amount of pressure and a rhythmic circular motion to stimulate lymph flow. MLD is helpful in managing lymphedema, post-surgical edemic swelling and other pathologies.
Thai Yoga Massage
Thai yoga massage is a treatment that involves stretching and deep massage. It is performed on the floor while the recipient wears comfortable clothing that allows for movement. There is no use of lotions. The massage therapist moves the relaxed recipients’ body into stretches that follow the Sen lines of the body. Thai yoga massage is very helpful for loosening up the connective tissue of the body. It is an amazing form of therapy for runners, athletes or even a desk worker. The treatment usually last 90 minutes.
Reflexology
Reflexology is the application of pressure techniques to the hands and feet to affect other parts of the body. These techniques stimulate pressure sensors, triggering a relaxation response throughout the body. Reflexology encourages good health, eases pain, prevents disease and improves quality of life.
Cranial Sacral Therapy
During a treatment, the practitioner gently works with the clients spine, skull, cranial sutures and fascia to ease restrictions in nerve passages and misaligned bones. This helps to increase the flow of cerebral spinal fluid. Osteopathic practitioners and massage therapists use Cranial Sacral techniques to ease pain from headaches, TMJ syndrome and myofascial pain from fibromyalgia.
Wellness Tips
Avoid getting sick! Regular 15 minute massage therapy treatments decrease the body's level of cortisol, a stress hormone that can take a toll on your immune system.
